Frederick asks what 'buffered ascorbic acid' means.
The Wonders say calcium ascorbate is best — several minerals can buffer vitamin C, but calcium has the best buffering ability — while stressing this was a suggestion, not an obligation.
He notes most buffered products combine magnesium and calcium; they tell him to keep looking, as plain calcium ascorbate is available.
On whether the calcium in it counts toward his calcium-magnesium supplementation, they say no: less than 10% of the dose is calcium, and less than 1% of that is absorbed.
Unable to find a 3-to-1 calcium-magnesium ratio, he suggests that insisting on it would be a control approach and that 2-to-1 would do just as well, which they confirm.
